Orthopedics (dental prosthetics)

Prosthetics of teeth in modern dentistry is carried out in the absence of one or more teeth in the patient and the inability to restore them with the help of therapeutic treatment.

As you know, the absence of even one tooth can lead to undesirable consequences in the form of a certain displacement of other teeth due to the additional load that falls on them, changes in the physiology of chewing and the occurrence of a number of diseases of the temporomandibular joint. Indications for dental prosthetics can be: significant or complete destruction of the tooth crown, single or multiple defects of the dentition and, of course, the complete absence of a tooth.

Prosthetics of teeth involves the use of various dentures, which are structures that allow you to restore the appearance and basic functions of one or several teeth at once. Modern dentures (ceramic crowns based on various alloys) are practically indistinguishable from "natural" teeth, they look completely natural and do not cause any discomfort to a person. Thanks to modern computer technology, dentists can ensure the highest accuracy of the selection of dentures and their perfect combination with the dental row of each patient.

We offer our patients various options for removable and non-removable dentures:

  • Fixed dentures are structures that the patient wears on his teeth all the time. They serve to restore both individual teeth and several teeth in the dentition. As a rule, these are single crowns or bridges. These are metal-ceramic structures based on a metal cap covered with a ceramic layer.
  • Among the wide variety of non-removable dentures, ceramic tabs are distinguished, which are used in the restoration of a tooth when it is destroyed by more than half.
  • Actually ceramics, as well as ceramics based on various metals are currently the most popular types of fixed prostheses due to their high strength and excellent aesthetic qualities.
  • Removable dentures are special constructions that can be removed from the oral cavity for hygienic care of them (cleansing), jaw rest or just for sleeping. Removable prosthetics are widely used for partial or complete loss of dentition, which is most often in demand by older patients. There are partial removable prosthetics of teeth (clasp prosthetics), when there are preserved teeth, but chewing with their help is difficult, or the restoration of a defect with a non-removable structure is simply impossible due to the large distance between the teeth, as well as complete removable prosthetics of teeth for their restoration (full removable prosthesis).

Ceramic Veneers are a type of highly aesthetic prosthetics of central teeth. Veneers are the thinnest porcelain plates that replace the outer layer of teeth (from the lip side).

Veneers are installed on the front teeth in cases when the teeth have already been significantly destroyed, or have changed color. Veneers allow you to achieve the desired shape and desired color of the tooth, while protecting your teeth. As a result, the tooth acquires lasting strength and does not differ from natural teeth. Veneers are made in accordance with the shape, color of the adjacent teeth of the patient and his wishes, as a result, the necessary aesthetic result is achieved. Veneers provide the least injury to the tooth during processing and installation, as well as reliability, durability and natural aesthetics.

The placement of zirconium crowns is the most modern treatment option, since these orthopedic structures are made on the basis of computer (CAD/CAM) technologies and are ten times more precise in the edge fit of conventional metal-ceramic crowns, which significantly prolongs their service life. By itself, zirconium dioxide has a chemical and physical structure close to the structure of human bone tissue. Crowns made on the basis of this material are very beautiful, resistant to aggressive food dyes and tobacco, do not oxidize their own teeth and do not cause allergic reactions.

The process of replacing crowns consists of several stages. First, there is a preliminary diagnosis, which includes an X-ray examination, a clinical examination of the oral cavity, an analysis of the ratio of teeth of the upper and lower jaw, photodiagnostics, phonetic tests. Based on the data obtained, a treatment plan is drawn up and agreed with the patient. Then your smile is modeled on diagnostic models. On the day of removal of old crowns, temporary ones (made of plastic) are installed in their place, taking into account the modeling, adjustments are made if necessary, teeth are treated. The final stage is orthopedic, that is, the actual manufacture of ceramic crowns based on zirconium dioxide.

When your own healthy teeth are next to the teeth restored with the help of a crown, you can get a beautiful natural smile in three ways. The first is the production of zirconium crowns that match your healthy teeth in color and shape. The second is bleaching your own teeth and making crowns in the color of bleached teeth. The third is covering your own teeth with ceramic veneers based on zirconium dioxide. Although the treatment for veneers is minimal - only the front surface of the tooth is treated for a thickness of 0.4-0.5 mm - this procedure is not therapeutic and is done only for aesthetic reasons with the written consent of the patient.

The end result of this complex treatment is the creation of a beautiful smile and the preservation of teeth covered with crowns for many years.

Why is a ceramic tab better than a composite seal?

The tab made of ceramic does not absorb dyes, does not collect plaque and is not erased as a composite. The tab, unlike the composite, does not shrink, which eliminates the recurrence of caries. The tab is made by a technician, taking into account all the movements of the jaw, which means that it will function with great comfort. A tooth covered with an inlay is much more resistant to wall splinters, which most often lead to tooth extraction.

What is the difference between zirconium crowns and cermet crowns?

The zirconia crown is made using a computer, which allows you to achieve high accuracy. Such a crown is much more airtight, which reduces the risk that the tooth will begin to deteriorate under it. Zirconium crowns are more aesthetically pleasing, they do not have a dark stripe at the gum.

Do I have to walk with a sharpened tooth?

A temporary plastic construction is made that protects the ground tooth until a permanent crown/veneer/tab is installed.

How long do crowns/veneers/dentures take?

Depending on the volume and complexity of the work, it can take from 6 to 14 days.

Do I need to remove a nerve before putting a crown?

We use modern methods and materials when using which, covering the tooth with a crown is not an indication for tooth depulpation.

Is the tooth rotting under the crown?

If the tooth does not have a carious lesion, old fillings, is qualitatively treated and covered with a crown with a good fit to the tooth, then this will not happen.

Does the tooth get very sharpened under the crown?

Modern types of prosthetics, such as veneers and E-max crowns, allow you to grind the tooth minimally within the tooth enamel.

Combine crowns together?

There is no need to combine crowns together, it will not affect the durability in any way, but only on the contrary, it will make it difficult to maintain hygiene and violate the accuracy of fit, which will lead to a reduction in the service life of crowns.

How long do crowns last?

On average, dental crowns last from 7 to 15 years. The service life of the crown depends on the degree of wear, oral hygiene and personal habits of the patient.
